A best-effort landscape census of 23 publicly documented projects — 17 agent frameworks/SDKs and 6 interoperability protocols — over the inclusive 365-day window 2 Sep 2025 to 1 Sep 2026. Six projects exposed cleanly indexed release feeds, yielding 135 dated release events; “distribution” here means language/runtime support, package registries, SDKs, hosted channels and ecosystem integrations. Counts are observed indexed release events, not total output.
Square area scales with the square root of monthly event count so Pydantic AI's very granular tagging (84 events, including its separate harness feed) does not flatten the other series. Hover a cell for the exact versions behind it. An empty cell means no indexed event was recovered — not necessarily inactivity.
Grouped by type. Blank cells are unresolved research gaps, kept visible rather than hidden. “Observed events” are indexed release events; zero means no clean feed was recovered, not zero releases. Status terms are source-reported and not uniformly defined.
MCP connects models to tools and context (release candidate toward a stateless core). A2A handles remote agent discovery and task exchange over HTTP + JSON-RPC + SSE (stable at 1.x). AG-UI streams agent state to user interfaces (active development). Agent Client Protocol remains a distinct editor/client-to-agent protocol; Agent Communication Protocol was merged into A2A; ANP remains a draft, discovery-oriented spec.
All 135 observed indexed events. Heterogeneous units — spec milestones, monorepo tags, prereleases, harness and SDK releases — should not be compared as identical.

Method: web research across official repositories, changelogs and specification pages plus independent ecosystem sources, over the inclusive window 2025-09-02 to 2026-09-01. Thousands of candidate pages were inspected; release counts exist only where a version and date could be reliably parsed, so the six-project event feed (135 rows) is not a complete activity measure and empty months do not mean inactivity. The 23-project matrix summarizes multiple pages per project and can include end-of-window status; “latest milestone date” may reflect a retrospective or roadmap page, so projects are not ranked by it. For MCP, official spec milestones are distinguished from third-party summaries; for A2A/AG-UI, protocol specifications from language SDK releases. Some long feature and channel texts were shortened in cards for space; every claim links its source row.
