do the analysis on animal damage claims not reported animal deaths
Five public AAMI claims snapshots between March 2018 and December 2025 cover motor-insurance animal-collision damage claims across Australia. Periods overlap and scopes differ — one snapshot counts kangaroo claims only — so the bars below are intervals, not a summable annual series. Values are claim counts; costs in Australian dollars.
Bars span each reporting window on a real time axis; overlapping windows overlap on the chart. The 2018–19 bar counts kangaroo claims only (kangaroos were 83% of all animal claims then). Hover a bar for scope, write-off rate and average damage.
AAMI publicly named five models in its 2023 claims study. Aggregated by maker that is Toyota with three named models, Ford and Holden with one each — presence on an unranked, unnumbered list. It is not three times as many claims, not market share, and not a measure of vehicle risk: fleet size, kilometres driven, rural exposure and fleet age are uncontrolled.

Claim counts by manufacturer or model are not published in any AAMI or Suncorp Group release found; targeted searches of insurer releases, media coverage and press-release PDFs through 3 September 2026 found the 2023 model list only, without numbers. Reporting windows overlap (e.g. Jul 2024–Jun 2025 vs calendar 2025) and definitions vary between "animal", "wildlife" and "kangaroo" claims, so the snapshots cannot be summed or turned into a strict annual series. The 2025 kangaroo lower bound is derived here from two reported figures and is labelled as such.
Data: five AAMI public claims snapshots (2018–2025) and five model-evidence rows, compiled from insurer and media pages current through 3 Sep 2026. A claim is a motor-insurance damage claim from a collision with an animal; costs are AUD. Corroborating coverage (35 source pages) informed verification but is not tabulated for space.
