Two initial merged web searches spanned roughly 3,500 unique result pages; three targeted 10-query batches (OpenAI-, DeepMind/Brain-, and Anthropic/Meta/xAI/Mistral-focused) spanned roughly 5,675 more before semantic filtering, and 1,788 targeted extracted candidate/source rows were retained across the three lab-focused sets. Overlaps between searches are substantial — these are pages scanned, not unique companies. From a 125-company candidate table, entries were excluded when: the figure was a valuation, acquisition price or AUM misread as funding (e.g. Anthropic $202.7B, Perplexity $23B, SSI $32B, Thinking Machines $20B, Mistral $14B, Reflection $13.5B — all valuations); the company is a lab itself or an Alphabet-created subsidiary (OpenAI, xAI as candidate, Isomorphic Labs); no founder actually left a frontier lab (generic Big Tech alumni such as Groq, ElevenLabs, NEAR, Synthesia, Pilot's non-lab claims verified separately, FabFitFun); the entry was a translation alias (People → Humans&, Residing/Living Carbon, Utilized/Applied Compute, Pondering/Thinking Machines, Alorian/Elorian, Ineffable/Ineffable Intelligence, Kimi/Moonshot); or the only support was Reddit or low-quality pages. Recursive Superintelligence (Meta, $650M) and Ricursive Intelligence (Anthropic/DeepMind, $335M) are distinct companies and kept separately.
