Three-quarters of all extracted orbital launch attempts left Earth from just five sites
3,394 orbital launch attempts extracted from Orbital Radar's annual archive pages, spanning 1957-10-04 to 2026-08-22, across 48 displayed launch-site labels and 27 operating blocs. Baikonur (794 attempts), Plesetsk Cosmodrome (742), Cape Canaveral (462), Vandenberg SFB (365) and the Guiana Space Centre (194) together carry 2,557 of them.

Orbital Radar states that its full database holds 7,391 launches since 1957, but each annual page exposed at most 50 table rows to this extraction. The 3,394 rows here are therefore a truncated sample: every year with more than 50 launches is under-counted, and recent high-cadence years are the most affected. No completeness is claimed. Source:

Operating bloc. The sovereign or multinational affiliation of the launch operator on the date of launch — not necessarily the territory containing the site. Soviet-era launches are kept as "Soviet Union", separate from post-1991 Russia.
Site still active. An operational proxy: "Yes" when the normalized displayed site label has an orbital launch on or after 2024-08-28, otherwise "No". Labels are as displayed by the source and are not deduplicated.

Baikonur (794 extracted attempts since 1957) and Plesetsk Cosmodrome (742 since 1966) together hold 45% of every extracted attempt in the dataset, and both launched again in July 2026.

Each annual page exposed at most 50 rows, so the extract is a truncated sample of the stated 7,391-launch archive. "Operating bloc" is the launch operator's affiliation at the date of launch; "site still active" means the displayed label had an orbital launch on or after 2024-08-28. The site timeline above is drawn from the complete 48-site rollup. Of the 3,394 launch-level rows, only the first 821 (1957-10-04 to 1975-11-04) fit into this build, and the table shows the 94 rows for 1957–1960; later rows were cut for space.
