Most recent-batch YC AI pivots keep the founders together and steer toward agent infrastructure; shutdowns leave little behind
Asked:
“Which AI startups went to Y Combinator in the last two years, pivoted, or went out of business this year? For each company, list the total amount of funding received and what the founders are doing now.”
Live-web research covering YC batches 2024 through 2026 and status changes through October 9, 2026 — not a complete official YC census. It tracks 26 company journeys: 11 verified pivots, 4 shutdowns with a confirmed 2026 date, 5 marked inactive in 2026 without an exact day, and 6 inactive companies whose change date is not tied to 2026. Funding is shown only where an exact-company source states a cumulative total; everything else is left blank and labeled “not publicly verified”.
26 journeys by outcome
One square per company, grouped by outcome. Solid squares are verified against a primary or near-primary source; hatched squares rely on a snapshot or an undated profile. Hover or tap a square for the story.
Of 11 verified pivots, nearly all point at AI-agent plumbing — identity, security, optimization, workflow — rather than a new consumer idea; Keystroke announced its pivot from Buster on October 9, 2026. ycombinator.com
One startup pivoted twice inside a year: software for hardware → Clam, a semantic firewall for AI agents → BaseFrame, an AI-automation discovery layer — and MarkosWeb's 2026 snapshot now marks BaseFrame inactive. linkedin.com
Shutdowns are far less visible than pivots: only Baseline AI ($500K) and Capacitive ($500K) have a cited cumulative-funding figure among the ten 2026 shutdown or inactive cases. ycwatcher.info
Where founder destinations after a wind-down are public, they lead to frontier labs: RiskAngle's Bill Chen is at OpenAI and William Hu at Anthropic. ycombinator.com

Method: live-web research compiled October 9, 2026, covering AI startups from YC batches 2024–2026 that pivoted or went inactive in 2026. 26 company journeys drawn from YC company and launch pages, LinkedIn announcements, YC Watcher, MarkosWeb, TechCrunch, PitchBook profiles and other startup databases across many independent hosts; no single URL supports more than half the rows. Clam and BaseFrame are one journey. Funding is a cumulative total only where an exact-company source states it; a YC standard check is never assumed to equal cumulative funding. Rows single-sourced to MarkosWeb or YC Watcher are flagged; known identity collisions in semantic search results (wrong founders, same-name companies) were discarded and those cells left blank.
