669 roasters surfaced in a state-by-state scan — the South and Mountain West dominate what the open web shows

“show me a map of all specialty coffee roaster across the USA. show me their founding date and other important attributes as well in a table. do state-by-state queries and then aggregate”
Five regional batches of state-specific web queries covered all 50 states and the District of Columbia; after location validation, filtering for businesses that actually roast, and deduplication by company, state and city, 669 roaster rows remained as of 31 August 2026. The map shades each state by how many roasters the scan surfaced there.
Coverage, not census. “All” here means every qualifying roaster this web scan could find and verify — not a licensed business registry. 29 states returned verifiable rows; a blank state means the queried directories yielded no confirmable roasting businesses there, not that none exist. Blank table cells mean an attribute was not stated by any source, not that the company lacks it. No source in this scan stated an explicit founding date, so the founded column is empty throughout — it is kept to show what the open web does and does not expose. Very new, home-based, wholesale-only or low-web-presence roasters are easy for directories to miss.
Roasters found per state
Darker brown = more roasters found. Grey = the scan returned no verifiable roasting business for that state. Hover a state for its count and largest cities.
Georgia leads the directory with 107 roasters, ahead of Florida (82) and Arizona (71) — largely a reflection of how richly those states are covered by roaster directories such as
coffeeroasternearme.com and
roastersmap.com.
100 of 669 roasters are explicitly flagged as selling wholesale and 25 as offering a subscription; the rest are simply unstated by their sources, e.g. state listings like
commerce.alaska.gov.
128 roasters (19%) were confirmed by two or more independent sources; the rest rely on a single listing, such as city guides like
wowlocalusa.com.
Street addresses were recoverable for 338 rows and a city for 535 — precise enough for a state map, but not for reliable point geocoding, which is why the lead visual is a state distribution rather than invented pins (see e.g.
smallcoffeeroasters.com).
Method: five regional batches of state-specific live-web search queries, each explicitly naming its states, with directory and map-source variants, run for all 50 states plus DC; results location-validated, filtered to businesses that roast coffee (plain cafés excluded unless a source said they roast), normalized and deduplicated by company, state and city. 669 rows; research date 31 August 2026. Ratings come from different platforms and are not directly comparable; a company may run several cafés but appears here as one roaster/location identity. Founders and sourcing/certification columns were cut for space because no source in this scan stated them. Blank cells mean “not stated”, not “no”.
